Why a Continence Assessment for Urinary Incontinence Management?
Urinary incontinence management can be challenging, especially for men seeking effective ways to regain control and improve their quality of life. Contino® offers a promising solution, and you can maximize its benefits by undergoing a Continence Assessment. In fact we require all users to complete a Continence Assessment before beginning a Contino Trial. Though tracking fluid intake and measuring output might seem time-consuming, the insights gained are invaluable. Men who complete a Continence Assessment experience significantly greater improvements overall and achieve superior urinary incontinence management.
What is a Continence Assessment and its role in urinary incontinence management?
A Continence Assessment is a crucial component of our Contino Care support program, providing a thorough evaluation to understand the specifics of your urinary incontinence. This process involves three key steps, illustrated in the circle diagram below: Initial Screening, Bladder Diary, and Continence Assessment.

Initial Screening:
We review your medical background, including any surgeries, medications, or conditions that might contribute to incontinence. We gather most of this information during our initial conversation. Our goal is to collect only what is necessary to determine if Contino is right for you.
Bladder Diary:
Next, we provide you with a Bladder Diary either by email or regular mail along with a short video explaining how to complete it. The Contino Support team is available as needed to help you or answer questions as you complete the diary for 2 to 3 days recording how much fluid you consume, how much urine you produce and some other relevant details such as pad/diaper use, urine colour and stream strength. This may seem tedious, but it provides critical data on your bladder function that we can use to provide you with a management plan specific to you.
See below a screenshot of one of our bladder diary pages with some sample data included.

Continence Assessment:
After you complete your Bladder Diary, send it to Contino® Support for analysis. Our team will schedule a convenient time to review the results with you and complete your Continence Assessment, ensuring you understand the findings and how they inform your treatment plan. If a Contino Trial is the best course of action to improve your leakage control, Contino Support will assist you in getting started.
Why Many Men Hesitate at this stage of urinary incontinence management
Tracking fluid intake and measuring output can be time-consuming and sometimes uncomfortable, making it seem like an unnecessary hassle, especially for those with busy lifestyles. However, skipping this step can lead to less effective urinary incontinence management for a couple of reasons. First, crucial details about your condition and symptoms might be missed. Second, understanding your patterns of leakage is essential for better control and effective management. Quite simply, men who take the time to complete the diary and continence assessment and truly understand their leakage patterns experience the best overall outcomes, with significant improvements in both leakage control and quality of life. By investing this effort, you can achieve a higher level of comfort and confidence in managing your condition. Contino user Sandy explains the benefits for him – click here!
